Happy mother’s day mommy
When I was young, there were so many things that I disagreed about or was unhappy about with you. And always, you’d tell me that I would understand when I’m older. I thought you were being unreasonable, unfair, and just wanted to keep me from having fun and being happy. It’s taken me 20 years to realize that that was the farthest thing you wanted for me. There is no way anything I do will be able to repay you back for everything you’ve done for me, but I’ll try. You deserve the world, and I’m going to try my best to give it to you. Love you mommy.

Rejection: the most powerful instigator of self loathing, the most feared result of putting yourself out there. So how can you protect yourself? By not caring. By not getting close. By keeping everything inside because you cannot trust anyone but yourself. Yet you are slowly suffocating in this airtight bubble constructed around yourself that was meant to protect. Nothing enters and nothing leaves; only your thoughts and memories exist within and twist around themselves with no reconciliation from the outside. Eventually, you are left with intangible knots of insecurities, assumptions, and doubts, with no clear beginning or end. Eventually, you need to breathe. However breaking this bubble means exposing yourself, making yourself vulnerable to be picked and prodded at. Your emotions are not your own; they are entangled and manipulated by others, whether knowingly or not, breaking you down as you lose control of the reigns in this foreign territory. You give up and yearn for solitude where no one can hurt you, but the vicious cycle begins all over again. Inside, you are not safe from your own mind, outside, you are not safe from others. Where can you hide?
